Green city by 2050: LA needs Finnish companies to fight climate change

Los Angeles is the leading city in the US for fighting climate change. While LA has a significant funding and planning in place to implement long-term green targets, they can’t reach them without international help. That’s where Finnish companies come in.

Team Finland has been working on a market research to identify commercial opportunities for Finnish companies related to the LA Green New Deal specifically related to the fields of mobility/transit and renewable energy.

LA has clear plans, budget, and interest to meet their emission reduction targets faster with international collaboration with Finnish solutions that solve needs not met by local companies.

But how can Finnish companies enter the Los Angeles market faster?

  1. Attend the informative market research webinar for the latest fiscal findings

The webinar will present recent findings related to the commercial opportunities around the Los Angles Green New Deal for Finnish companies. Register to join webinar.

  2. Decarbonized Cities Program

Business Finland recently launched the Decarbonized Cities Program. The city of LA is the first US city to be part of this program. The program will enhance the creation of cross-sector solutions that cities all over the world needed to reduce CO2 emissions. The program aims to strengthen Finland’s pioneering role in carbon neutrality and establish long-term partnerships with select cities.

The launch event of Decarbonized Cities program is in Helsinki on April 18th, and the LA Mayor’s office will be speaking at the kick-off event.

  3. Attend Team Finland visit to Los Angeles

Team Finland players are expanding the cooperation with LA by bringing Finnish companies to meet key city stakeholders, including relevant agencies and incumbents in Los Angeles. The upcoming visit, May 9-11, has specialized tracks to facilitate workshopping around challenges and pilots, providing a unique opportunity to pitch to LA stakeholders.

Forget about shaking hands and collecting business cards, we’re talking about solving problems with the decision makers. Register by Apr. 3

  4. Team Finland players are here for you

There’s plenty of LA companies already looking for international expertise through partnerships. There’s also an option to join a Finnish ecosystem such as Smart City Innovation Cluster, ITS Finland, or CLIC Innovation.

Team Finland has been working with the city of LA around the LA Green New Deal running workshops initially in mobility and transit in 2022, and 2023 marks a year of expansion into new areas based on successful past collaboration.

In 2028, LA will be hosting the summer Olympics, and they’d like to be known as a green city, not a dirty city, but that is not an easy feat, which is why Finnish companies’ expertise is essential.
Team Finland hopes to engage more Finnish companies to bring solutions forward to LA in 2023.
