Photonics and microelectronics are key enabling technologies that hold the promise to solve many of today's challenges and enable the green and digital transformation. Already, photonics and microelectronics are needed in almost all areas of life: From data communication, biomedicine, energy to environmental technology, manufacturing, automotive and consumer products all the way to quantum computers.

Finland has a remarkable photonics and microelectronics ecosystem – including global success cases, growth companies as well as constantly emerging university spin offs. The Finnish knowhow has been noted internationally as an epicenter for deep tech.

Investing in Photonics and Microelectronics is an event designed to help Finnish photonics and microelectronics companies to find investors, and to raise awareness of the advanced companies in the field, delivering and groundbreaking technologies and products. The event is organized by Photonics Finland and Business Finland.

Company descriptions for pitches:

LensMakers Technologies
LensMakers Technologies provides services from optical design and optical measurements to manufacturing small series using aspherical plastic optics. Also, we have our own product development.

ElFys
ElFys provides light detectors with sensitivity exceeding anything seen before. ElFys patented technology can greatly improve any light sensing application ranging from smart rings to autonomous driving. ElFys currently focuses on defence, analytical instrumentation and wearable health monitoring. We have completed sales to about 70 companies in 16 countries. ElFys is presently investing in ramping up production to meet the demand and growth targets. For this, further funds are needed.

OLED Solutions
OLED Solutions is focused to make the next environmentally friendly breakthrough in the general illumination market by introducing white OLEDs as the next LED technology. Our pioneering approach addresses the current manufacturing complexity of white OLEDs and aims to eliminate the energy-intensive processes associated with LEDs. We achieve this by leveraging photonic structures capable of converting monochromatic OLEDs into white OLEDs. Through the use of photonics, we enable the simplification of OLED manufacturing, ultimately rendering it accessible and cost-effective lighting solution. With one patent granted and another in priority application, we are hoping to lead the future of illumination with sustainability as our main goal.

Hypermemo
Whereas lasers are already commonly used in processing of metals, technological limitations have so far prevented wide use of lasers in glass industry. Hypermemo has solved this problem by developing and patenting proprietary short-pulsed CO2 laser. It was specifically designed for glass processing and has unique features that allow lasers to be widely deployed throughout the industry, bringing significant cost and energy savings, as well as improved sustainability. We firmly believe that our technology has potential to become a game changer in the market.

Maculaser
Restoring Retinal Health - Maculaser’s pioneering retinal treatment triggers the natural healing response of senescent cells through personalized heating. Targeting disease prevention, we offer a tailored, non-damaging solution to retinal disorders affecting millions worldwide.

AGATE Sensors
AGATE Sensors have developed a solid-state on-chip sensor technology that eliminates the limitations and challenges associated with the current state-of-the-art hyperspectral technology, such as high costs, large size, reduced accuracy, high power consumption, and lack of robustness. This breakthrough technology makes it possible to implement the current "laboratory" technology on a large scale, making it accessible to consumers, and the agricultural, industrial, and defense industries.

Kovilta
Sensor fusion capability for autonomous vehicles is in doubt. Kovilta provides smart image sensor ASIC SoCs, systems, algorithms and software for high-speed, low-power, low-cost visual analysis and situational awareness at the edge. Kovilta’s sensors with on-chip massively parallel processing are able to track the environment robustly and provide both reactive control with extremely low lag and a new attention mechanism to more efficiently employ sensor fusion systems in autonomous machines. The total addressable market for Kovilta’s technology is estimated at 4 Trillion USD by 2030.
