Sweden has a strong shipbuilding industry history. Although the industry transformed during the 70s and 80s when most of the shipyards closed, many of its suppliers adopted quickly to the new environment and started to export their solutions globally. This part of the industry remains strong and continues its development. The competitive advantage and focus for the sector are quality and safety and increasingly more in recent years also sustainability and energy efficiency. Finding partners within this sector can elevate global business opportunities for Finnish companies.

There are also plenty of domestic opportunities within the Swedish flagged fleet. Both private and public shipowners are investing in new ships and several innovative projects are going on. Swedish shipowners and operators are particularly strong within tankers, roro and ropax.
