Team Finland network is inviting Finnish companies to join a trade mission to Guyana on 4 - 7 November 2024 to explore opportunities in the world’s fastest growing economy. The aim of the visit led by Ambassador Pertti Ikonen, is to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance commercial cooperation in the fields of sustainable growth and green transition in several key industries, including infrastructure (energy, logistics, construction), mining & quarrying, and water & sanitation.

Guyana is the world’s fastest growing economy due to the significant oil and gas findings, which have attracted FDI injections to the only English-speaking country in South America. In 2024, real GDP is projected to grow by 34.3%. If this rate is achieved, it will result in Guyana growing at an annual average of 38.8% over a five-year period.

The discoveries have attracted global O&G giants to explore the Guyana basin, with ExxonMobil leading the development with the Stabroek Block (45% share). The company recently decided to develop its sixth project, Whiptail, securing another 12.7 BUSD of investments. Demand for supporting technologies will increase, and the spillover effect brought by FDI opens interesting business opportunities in several sectors.

Who should attend?

The visit is tailored for Finnish companies providing sustainable and digital solutions or investing in several industries, including:

  • Infrastructure: logistics and energy (incl. oil & gas)
  • Water and sanitation
  • Mining and quarrying, building materials and technologies
Examples of technologies and services that heavy industries will see growing demand for:

  • Hazardous waste management
  • Oil spill monitoring and contention
  • Monitoring and quantifying of flaring
  • Safety of employees and assets
  • Connectivity and digitalization
  • Industrial water treatment
  • Local production of aggregates and other building materials
