Finnish companies building a new Ukraine, 56 companies exploring opportunities

Reconstruction work in Ukraine has begun, but will still take decades. During this period, we can strengthen economic cooperation between Finland and Ukraine. Business Finland creates partnerships and opens up funding opportunities to promote business. Interest in the Ukrainian market is constantly growing.

"Ukraine needs reconstruction already during the war to cope with everyday challenges: energy security, transport networks, housing, schools, health care, hospitals and civil defense shelters. Finnish know-how and the services offered by companies meet these needs very well", says Director Reijo Kangas from Business Finland.

The reconstruction event organized by the Ukrainian state brings together companies, funders and public operators from around the world to Warsaw, Poland, on November 13–14, 2024. Finland’s business delegations there is one of the largest.

Business Finland has brought together 56 Finnish companies that offer their services extensively to potential partners in Ukraine. Last year, 60 Finnish companies participated in the event, and the contacts made there have already transformed into concrete business in Ukraine.

In addition to the establishment of suitable networks, one of the challenges of reconstruction is funding. Business Finland and many other operators involved in the public Team Finland network have adjusted their advisory and financial services to suit the needs of business in Ukraine.

"Companies are offered information services on international financial institutions and reconstruction and development projects. Our task is to explain what these consist of and what their operating principles are", Kangas says.

The delegation includes Molok Ltd, a provider of waste management solutions, which has been doing business in Ukraine for years, also during the war.

"At the moment, we’re looking for more information on funding, as we already have a representative in Ukraine and good contacts in local municipalities. We also took part in this event last year, and this year we’re going to seek more projects that are suitable for us", says Damir Budanec, Molok's Regional Sales Manager.

The Ukraine activities of the consulting and engineering company AFRY are carefully considered.

"With our long experience and in-depth special expertise, we’re intending to enter the Ukrainian reconstruction market. Our spearheads include underground civil shelters and energy management solutions", says Risto Räty, Director, Infrastructure Finland.
