Prime Minister Petteri Orpo visits the construction site of the Osaka World Expo in Japan on Thursday 12 December. The World Expo will open to the public in April 2025. It is expected that around 28 million people will visit Expo during its 6 month opening time.

The Prime Minister Petteri Orpo visits the World Expo site as part of his trip to Japan, which aims to deepen economic and diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan and to support the internationalization of Finnish companies.

"Finland's participation in the Osaka World Expo is a unique investment that will open new doors for Finnish companies in the Japanese market. Japan is the world's fourth largest economy and Finland's third largest trading partner outside Europe. Its market offers significant growth opportunities for Finnish companies", states Petteri Orpo.

Opportunities for Finland at the World Expo

Finland participates the Osaka World Expo together with the other Nordic countries Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The countries build a Nordic Pavilion together, which represents the countries' shared values of trust, sustainable development and innovation culture. The Nordic Pavilion is expected to attract around 1.7 million visitors during the six months of the World Expo. Business Finland is coordinating Finland's participation and is responsible for the operational implementation of the pavilion.

"Osaka Expo offers Finnish companies the opportunity to stand out in the market and take advantage of Finland's excellent image in Japan. We can showcase Finnish innovations at the World Expo and build stronger commercial relations with Japan", says Lassi Noponen, Director General of Business Finland.

Japan is Finland's second most important trading partner in Asia and relations between the two countries have deepened in recent years. Cooperation between Finland and Japan extends beyond traditional trade to technology, education and sustainable development projects, in which both countries are strongly involved.

"Recent global upheavals have broadened the image of Finland in Japan. New technologies from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity, green transition solutions, energy, 5G and 6G R&D expertise have become known as areas of excellence for Finland", Noponen continues.
