The Flexible Energy Systems program facilitates future looking innovations and promotes Finnish solutions increasing flexibility of the energy system, with the aim to significantly strengthen the export industry and increase exports globally. The planned duration of the program is 6 years, 2024-2030.

A flexible energy system can smoothly adapt to changes and uncertainties, allowing for the seamless integration of new solutions. Flexibility is an enabler of the new decarbonized energy system, driving the renewal of Finnish industries, boosting competitiveness and exports across various sectors, and attracting investments to Finland.
Moving from fossil, centralized and predictable power market to renewable, distributed, intermittent and varying production demands substantial innovation, investments and international collaboration.
The Flexible Energy Systems program concentrates on ensuring Finland’s competitiveness and exports growth with future looking innovations. The program is also helping companies in networking, international collaboration and entering new markets as well as getting information on topics such as sustainability, resilience, regulation and geopolitics. The program monitors the needs of end customers in foreign markets, enables the creation of international innovation and customer relationships, facilitates generation of platforms, and supports the scaling of innovations.
The program also aims to facilitate generating new business by elaborating the paths from research to business in co-operation with Research Council of Finland.
The Flexible Energy Systems program supports the goal of Business Finland's Zero Carbon Future mission by increasing Finland’s global carbon handprint through enabling decarbonization of energy systems.
The Flexible Energy Systems program is aimed at Finnish companies of all sizes, special attention is put on start-ups and SMEs.
