Call has ended!

The transition to a carbon-neutral society calls for massive changes. We need innovative solutions that advance sustainable development, help to mitigate climate change, and support the achievement of carbon-neutrality goals. Start seeking success for your company from innovative solutions.

For which projects can funding be applied?

Projects may be associated with energy efficiency, climate and environmental solutions, adaptation to climate change, new energy solutions or the circular economy, for example.

Business Finland provides funding for new creative research through aid. Projects funded through aid:

  • create new competence and information for companies and partnership networks
  • take greater risks than normal and, if successful, involve a high market potential
  • often require more development afterwards to commercialize the results

For SME research projects, Business Finland's aid covers a maximum of 50 percent of the total project costs.

The aid is intended for independent research projects of companies. Companies can connect their project to the development areas defined in roadmaps for leading companies. Read more about the partnership model funding call.

No funding will be granted for projects that promote the use of fossil fuels. In projects within the scope of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), estimated greenhouse gas emissions must be below the benchmark value, defined as a requirement for free allocation in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/447.

How to apply for funding?

Complete basic applicant and application information normally in Business Finland's online service.

  • Select 'Research, development and piloting'.
  • Under 'RRF – Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland', select 'RRF – innovation support for growth companies'.

Respond to the questions related to environmental impact. Every project provided with RRF funding must fulfill the 'Do No Significant Harm (DNSH)' requirements. The EU RRF requires that no measures do any significant harm to the environment.

Funding schedule

In 2021-2023, a total of EUR 20 million of funding will be granted. Business Finland will make funding decisions following normal selection criteria. The call is continuing, but for funding granted in 2022, applications should be submitted by October 31st, 2022.

Projects provided with RRF funding must be completed no later than December 2025.
