Business Finland and European Union partnership funding opportunity Driving Urban Transitions (DUT). Deadline for stage one pre-proposal submission is 14.11.2024.

The DUT Partnership steps up the game to tackle urban challenges. The purpose of this call is to support transnational research and/or innovation projects addressing urban challenges to help cities in their transition towards a more sustainable economy and functioning.

The challenges are grouped into three themes called Transitions Pathways:

  • Positive Energy Districts (PED)
    • Local PEDs in a multi-level perspective
    • Towards the climate-neutral city: PEDs, system integration and urban strategies
    • Managing the urban energy transition: data management and decision support systems

  • 15-Minute City (15mC)
    • Advancing Urban Mobility: Innovations for Inclusive and Youth-Centric Mobility Systems
    • Reconsidering Urban Mobility Systems: Towards System Innovation and Proximity Policies for Sustainable City Regions
    • Evidence for the urban mobility transition – data and indicators for effective decision-making

  • Circular Urban Economies (CUE)
    • Creating a New Paradigm for Urban Water Cycles
    • Circular Models for Regenerating, Repurposing, Protecting and Conserving Urban Space for Biodiversity
    • Multi-City Strategies for Circular Urban Economy Monitoring and Management

Each proposal must involve, at least, three partners from three countries eligible for funding by their respective national/regional Funding Agency. The Call is opened to a wide range of scientific disciplines and welcomes interdisciplinary approaches. It intends to support a large range of activities, from research to innovation and implementation. The added value of transnational collaboration should be clearly stated.

Companies and research organizations can apply for funding. If the Finnish applicant for funding is a research organization, there must be at least three companies involved, two of which must be Finnish companies. Companies do not need to apply for funding for their own R&D project.

The call is a two-stage call. Application deadline for stage 1 is 14th of November 2024 at 13.00 CET. Applications are submitted to DUT portal. Second stage deadline is 24th of April 2025 at 13.00 CET. Applications are submitted to DUT portal and Business Finland portal. Only pre-proposals invited to submit a full proposal are eligible in the second stage.

DUT Call 2024 is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Partnership scheme. The call is also part of the MICall 2024 to contribute the Urban Transition Mission of Mission Innovation.
