Objectives of the call

The European network of funding organizations M-ERA.NET3 is launching a joint call for proposals in 2024. Through the call international research and development projects focused on materials and future battery technologies will be financed. More than 30 national and regional funding organizations are participating in the call. The preliminary budget of the call is approximately 35 million euros. The call supports the European Green Deal program, the development of the circular economy and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Criteria for projects financed by Business Finland

Applications must meet both the criteria of M-ERA.NET3 2024 applications and the criteria of Business Finland's Co-Innovation funding serviceAlthough Business Finland does not require Finnish companies participating in the consortium to submit a funding application, in accordance with the M-ERA.NET3 criteria, the consortium must ensure that at least three of the partners apply for funding from a national financier.

Finnish SMEs and large companies applying for funding from Business Finland can participate in consortia either independently or together with other Finnish partners. Companies can also act as an in-kind partner of the consortium without applying for funding.

Research organizations can apply for funding from Business Finland, provided that the consortium includes at least three companies, of which at least two are Finnish SMEs or large companies and at least one is a foreign business partner. In addition, the consortium must meet the eligibility requirements of M-ERA.NET3.

The Business Finland grant’s maximal share of acceptable costs is 80% for research organizations, max. 65% for SMEs and max. 50% for large companies. Financing in the form of a loan is also possible for companies, the amount of the loan is 50-70% of the acceptable costs for SMEs and a maximum of 50% for large companies. There is no set upper limit for the costs of financed projects, but the budget is determined through goals and measures. It is essential to achieve an impactful and significant R&D project.

Application schedule and budget

The pre-proposal must be submitted to the M-ERA-NET portal within the time frame mentioned in this application announcement. Applicants should contact Business Finland well in advance of submitting their pre-proposals.

No application documents are submitted to Business Finland when submitting a pre-proposal. The application will be requested later only from those parties who are successful in the evaluation of the full proposal phase. Business Finland is prepared to finance Finnish parties with a maximum of 1 million euros.
