Business Finland's missions are selected from areas that are globally in a state of change. These disruptions provide substantial market opportunities for Finnish companies. One of the potential growth markets for Finland is Japan.

Digital mission combines long term strategic foresight work with here-and-now solutions and tools for companies looking for new innovations and new markets. Digitalization is part of almost all our activity. Technology is reaching the level where significant reforms in society are possible.

Main themes of the day

  • Finland leading the connectivity and 6G development
  • Finland creates pioneering digital solutions to increase the resilience and security of societies of the future
  • Supercomputers and quantum technologies as global problem solvers – expertise comes from Finland

Japan

Japan is investing heavily in tackling social challenges with its Society 5.0 program, which focuses on areas such as high-speed data networks, efficient use of data, IoT, and AI. Combined with Japan’s renowned industrial know-how, these will help to address challenges related to production efficiency, infrastructure, and logistics, for example.

Japan is Finland’s second most important trading partner in Asia. The free-trade agreement between the EU and Japan, concluded in 2019, has made it easier for Finnish companies to enter the market.

Finland

Finland has a chance is to be a forerunner in this development and find those investment targets that will increase our world-wide differentiation.

The Japanese market is progressive and offers plenty of potential also for Finnish companies. Success in Japanese market is not automatic and requires efforts. Engaging in collaboration with Japanese partners and companies helps in entering the market.

The digital excellence of Finland is known, but Finnish solutions are not yet known well enough in Japan and companies should take active measures to stand out in the competitive market.

Finland’s 5G/6G expertise is well-known in Japan. There are also collaboration opportunities in disruptive technologies, such as supercomputers and quantum technologies.
