Los Angeles will host the 2028 games (LA28), currently with a budget of nearly $7billion. As part of the games, LA is investing in infrastructure and services that will benefit the area for the games, but also after the games. LA has ambitious goals including a ‘carless’ and ‘zero waste’ games. The games are a key happening that is driving fundamental changes in many areas, including the rapid expansion and electrification of public transit, and improvements in people flow around sporting venues (smart city services).
The city of Los Angeles and Finland have been collaboration partners for years, most recently through the Business Finland Decarbonized Cities, Built Environment programs and ports activities, and through the Ministry with an LOI signed on Mar. 2023, and an LA delegation to Finland in June 2024 around mobility and sustainability.
Following market research and discussions with LA buyers, Team Finland aims to expand the cooperation with LA by promoting relevant Finnish solutions for mobility and venue smart services, specifically to support LA28. This delegation aims to workshop with relevant LA buyers and influencers to explore areas for further innovation collaboration and pilots around two key areas:
Additionally, the city is hosting a multitude of large events before the 2028 games, such as FIFA World cup in 2026 and Superbowl in 2027.
The delegation will include workshops and a reception with buyers, select stadium tours, and entrance to the CoMotion LA conference.
This Team Finland visit is tailored for Finnish companies looking to expand into the LA county via a pilot and/or commercial partnerships. Meetings are geared towards specific project implementations and solving current challenges, with an emphasis on proposing future pilots in LA. Companies should be ready to pitch their solutions to potential end customers, which includes both city agencies and private incumbents.
Pre-work before the visit is highly encouraged and will include a briefing session and virtual introductions with the end customers before the delegation.
The visit is organized if at least 5 companies sign up. Delegation size is limited to 30 companies, and a company may have more than one representative attending.
To cover the expenses of arranging the program in LA, Business Finland will charge a participation fee of:
Business Finland will invoice the participation fee after the visit based on the actual costs. The invoiced fee will not exceed the amounts mentioned above.
